The clubs of the Canadian Premier League made their selections in the first-ever U Sports player draft this morning, and we now know at least some of the players who will be in the mix for all seven teams.
The draft was three rounds long with a snake order, so 21 total players were chosen from Canadian universities. Cavalry FC had the first overall pick, which they used on Carleton University forward Gabriel Bitar.
In all, 15 Canadians were chosen, with 13 players going to a team in their home province. Six international players were also taken, with German Peter Schaale — a product of Cape Breton University — going fifth overall to HFX Wanderers FC.
