On Tuesday morning, the Canadian Premier League made a pair of announcements, including the date and time of the fledgling league’s inaugural match.
There were representatives from multiple clubs in attendance, including York 9 FC head coach Jimmy Brennan and his Forge FC counterpart Bobby Smyrniotis, as well as players from each club. Members of the Barton St. Battalion and Generation IX supporters groups were also on hand to represent their clubs, Forge and York9 respectively.
The first announcement was the reveal of Volkswagen Canada as an official partner of the league. Volkswagen will receive promotional and media assets with all seven clubs, and will be the jersey sponsor of a yet-to-be-announced team.
