Roberto Osuna probably expected to make the Blue Jays as a starter.
After all, 20-year-olds don't make big-league teams as the closer, right? Starter, maybe. Middle relief, fair enough. But closing? Nah, it typically doesn't happen.
Well, Osuna, now 21, isn't your typical young pitcher and, well, closing is what he's been doing practically since joining the Jays out of spring training in 2015. He saved 20 games last year and, Saturday at the Rogers Centre, despite giving up a double to A.J. Reed, racked up No. 26 on the season to tie a little-known record.
When Osuna nailed down the Jays' 4-2 win over the Houston Astros, he equalled a record held by Terry Forster for career saves (46) before a player's 22nd birthday.
