It’s as much a part of New England tradition as maple syrup or a Kennedy politico.
For nearly 120 years, they’ve been celebrating Patriots Day in Massachusetts, in recognition of the battles that started the rebellion leading to the creation of the United States as an independent republic.
For many of those years, Patriots Day has also been about two of Boston’s most revered sporting legacies: The Boston Marathon and the Boston Red Sox. The Boston Marathon is the world’s oldest annual marathon, having been run on Patriots Day since 1897, four years before the Red Sox became charter members of the American League.
