DUNEDIN, Fla. -- Devon Travis has passed another big test and all signs now point to the third-year second baseman being ready for Opening Day.
Travis missed most of Spring Training as he continued to recover from surgery on his right knee last year. He began appearing in Minor League games last week and made his debut with the big league club on Thursday, which means he should be good to go.
The 26-year-old received a day off on Sunday after he made back-to-back appearances at second base. In Saturday's 6-5 loss to the Yankees, he played the field for seven innings and had a pair of hits with a run scored and an RBI in four at-bats.
