Ten days after Daniel Norris said he was undergoing surgery for thyroid cancer, the Detroit Tigers left-hander announced Thursday through social media that he is cancer free.
Norris posted on Instagram that the surgery to remove a malignant growth on his thyroid was successful. A photo showed the scar on his throat from the incision.
“I just want to thank everyone for the thoughts & prayers. Surgery was successful & I am Cancer Free. #justkeeplivin,” Norris posted.
The 22-year-old Norris is expected to be recovered in time to start spring training in February.
The Tigers knew about the cancer when they acquired Norris from the Toronto Blue Jays in late July but were confident that he would recover.
