It’s a Friday night at Calgary’s Pig and Duke pub, and there’s not an empty seat in the house.

Thousands of kilometres across the country, the Toronto Blue Jays are playing host to the New York Yankees. Nevermind the sometimes prickly relationship between the Ontario capital and this western boomtown, the partisan crowd at the Pig and Duke’s allegiances are clear — this might be oil country, but it’s also Jays country, through and through.

“It’s been unbelievable,” said Jo Lowden, one of the owners of the Pig and Duke, which has been promoting games with contests like jersey-giveaways.
