ST. LOUIS -- The Cardinals had a good notion Matt Carpenter was going on the disabled list late Wednesday night. After they finished arranging for catcher Michael McKenry to come up from Triple-A Memphis to fill Carpenter's roster spot, they immediately tried to get in touch with National League All-Star manager Terry Collins.
They wanted to lobby to get rookie shortstop Aledmys Diaz on the All-Star team as Carpenter's replacement. Collins and the league agreed with the Cardinals on Thursday and named Diaz to the squad that will represent the NL in San Diego on Tuesday.
