Shoulder problem puts Blue Jays pitcher J.P. Howell on DL

ST. PETERSBURG, FLA. -

Following the Blue Jays’ 10-8 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field on Friday, Blue Jays reliever J.P. Howell sat inside the visiting team clubhouse staring straight ahead, as if in disbelief.

One by one, teammates walked over and gave him a fist pump or patted him on the shoulder. Turns out Howell’s post-game funk had more to do than just a rough inning. The left-hander was hammered in the sixth inning coming in for Ryan Tepera. He gave up a double to Corey Dickerson, walked Peter Bourjos, gave up another double to Steven Souza Jr.
