Series of blunders leads to Blue Jays loss to Pirates

TORONTO — It was a comedy of errors, but nobody was laughing inside the Blue Jays’ dugout.

A series of third-inning blunders spoiled a great performance by Toronto starter Marcus Stroman as the Pittsburgh Pirates downed the Jays 4-2 at the Rogers Centre on Friday night.

Stroman pitched eight solid innings for Toronto, giving up only four hits and no earned runs, but he still took the loss.

Jose Bautista hit his 20th home run of the season off Pittsburgh starter Jameson Taillon to lead off the third, his eighth straight 20-plus home run season. Only Carlos Delgado has done that in more consecutive seasons (nine, 1996-2004) as a Blue Jay.
