Sanchez drops appeal, begins 3-game suspension

TORONTO -- Aaron Sanchez dropped his appeal and began his three-game suspension Wednesday versus the Twins at Rogers Centre. He'll be able to return to the Blue Jays' bullpen Saturday in New York against the Yankees.

The righty reliever was ejected from Sunday's game against the Royals for throwing at Alcides Escobar in the eighth inning. The league issued the suspension and an undisclosed fine on Tuesday.

Manager John Gibbons was also suspended following Sunday's contentious affair. Gibbons, who'd been ejected earlier in the contest, came back out onto the field when the Toronto and Kansas City benches cleared during a brief fracas after Sanchez plunked Escobar.
