R.A. Dickey tagged early as Blue Jays lose third straight

DETROIT - It was a bad day for Joey Chestnut, a worse one for R.A. Dickey and the Toronto Blue Jays.

While Chestnut was upset in the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest on Coney Island, Dickey was battered on the mound on Independence Day at Comerica Park.

While Chestnut was an eight-time defending champion, Dickey had never lost at Comerica, entering the day with an unblemished 3-0 record. Overall he had gone 4-0 vs. the Tigers in his previous five starts.

However the Blue Jays pitching is a mess these days and Dickey is the latest to catch whatever disease is swirling through their rotation.
