It had been widely speculated recently that the Philadelphia Phillies would trade second baseman Chase Utley to a contending team soon. But general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. put the brakes on that speculation on Tuesday.
Amaro said during a radio interview on WIP in Philadelphia that Utley "is likely to be with the Phillies for the rest of the year."
That may mean that Utley has rejected all trade possibilities presented to him. Utley's contract has a no-trade clause, so he must approve any trade before it can be made.
This does not close the door on a possible Utley trade, but it certainly makes it less likely.
