ARLINGTON -- Steve Pearce wasted little time Sunday breaking out his hot bat on a cool afternoon at Globe Life Park. The Blue Jays' left fielder hammered the first pitch of the game -- a fastball from Texas starter Cole Hamels -- deep to left field for his first career leadoff home run.
It was Pearce's second homer in as many games. He also belted a solo shot in the sixth inning of Toronto's 5-1 loss Saturday in his 13th at-bat of the season. He did not homer until his 56th plate appearance in 2017.
