The Blue Jays placed reliever Danny Barnes on the 10-day disabled list on Tuesday, and manager John Gibbons was hopeful that something tangible would come from lefty Matt Dermody, who was recalled from triple-A Buffalo.
Certainly it couldn’t be worse for Dermody than his only previous appearance for Toronto this season, when he gave up five earned runs in one-third of an inning on April 16 versus Baltimore. Dermody was hit for three home runs that day, which marked the sixth time in Jays history a reliever allowed at least three homers in an inning, and the first time since Brian Tallet did so against Boston during a game in 2010.
