The Blue Jays have chosen Tony LaCava to be the team's interim general manager. New team president and CEO Mark Shapiro announced the move during a news conference Monday at Rogers Centre.
Shapiro said he doesn't have a timetable to name a permanent GM.
LaCava was assistant GM under Alex Anthopoulos, who decided to leave the organization last week after turning down a five-year extension to remain in his position.
Shapiro, formerly with the Indians, was hired to replace the retiring Paul Beeston as team president.
