With a little more luck, the Blue Jays might have notched a comfortable win against new Royals ace Johnny Cueto on Friday night.
Instead, they had to sweat it out before Josh Donaldson finished the job in the 11th inning by lining a single that scored Troy Tulowitzki, giving the home side a 7-6 walk-off triumph.
Tulowitzki led off the inning with a single, moved up to second on a balk by Franklin Morales, before Donaldson smoked a 3-2 offering to the gap to improve the Jays to 53-51.
Cueto, Kansas City’s marquee trade-deadline acquisition, was solid if not spectacular in his Royals debut and the Jays wasted several chances, before rallying to force extra innings against the American League leaders and eventually winning the thriller.
