To the surprise of absolutely nobody who saw him go down in a crumpled heap on Friday, Jays shortstop Troy Tulowitzki is heading to the disabled list.
The five-time all-star hurt his ankle when he appeared to make contact with both the first base bag and C.J. Cron of the Angels while trying to beat out an infield hit in the series opener.
“It didn’t look good,” Jays manager John Gibbons said before Saturday’s game.
Tulowitzki was placed on the 10-day DL, with utility player Rob Refsnyder called up from the Buffalo Bisons for some insurance behind Ryan Goins and Darwin Barney.
