DUNEDIN, Fla. - Aaron Sanchez was almost as fired up in the Florida Auto Exchange Stadium clubhouse on Sunday as he was on the mound.
A Toronto reporter suggested to Sanchez that, at this point of spring training, he’s probably only thinking about executing pitches, and not about earning the spot as the Blue Jays’ fifth starter.
“You don’t think I’m thinking starter?” Sanchez replied, his voice rising. “Absolutely I’m thinking starter. They know what I want to do. Everybody in baseball knows what I want to do.”
Sanchez has made no bones about the fact that he wants the role as Toronto’s fifth starter this season, and Sunday against the visiting Tampa Bay Rays, he made a good case for himself to be given the job.
