The Toronto Blue Jays released outfielder Melvin Upton Jr. and placed closer Roberto Osuna on the 10-day disabled list with a back injury as the team set its 25-man Opening Day roster Sunday.
Upton hit just .194 with three home runs and seven RBIs this spring. He homered on Saturday in the Blue Jays' 6-4 exhibition victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates at Olympic Stadium in Montreal.
The disabled list move for Osuna was made retroactive to March 30 with the reliever's injury listed as a cervical spasm. Osuna's fastball velocity has notably decreased this spring, with an average speed of 92 to 93 mph.
