The Toronto Blue Jays have made another late-season front-office hire.
A little more than a year after it was announced Mark Shapiro would be joining the organization as president and CEO, the Jays hired former Boston Red Sox GM Ben Cherington as VP of baseball operations on Wednesday afternoon, at the same time as they were continuing their September skid by falling 8-1 to the Tampa Bay Rays at Rogers Centre.
Cherington will report to GM Ross Atkins and, according to a press release from the Jays, the 42-year-old will “impact every aspect of baseball operations, with an emphasis on player development.
