Blue Jays manager John Gibbons quipped before Tuesday’s wild-card game that win or lose, he was heading to Texas on Wednesday.
The subtle joke being that if the Jays lost in Tuesday’s wild-card game against the Baltimore Orioles, he’d be heading home to San Antonio, Tex., unemployed.
Or soon to be unemployed.
And that’s probably no joke.
During spring training this year, Mark Shapiro, the Blue Jays new president and CEO, stopped by occasionally to chat with the Toronto media.
In many of his conversations, Shapiro seemed to go out of his way to praise Gibbons.
