Blue Jays closer Roberto Osuna will start the regular season on the disabled list.
Osuna, who had 36 saves for the Jays last season with an ERA of 2.68, is listed as suffering from a cervical spasm.
RHP Jason Grilli will likely close the majority of games in Osuna’s absence although RHP Joe Biagini could also step into that role.
In announcing their 25-man roster for the start of the regular season on Monday in Baltimore, the Blue Jays released outfielder Melvin Upton Jr. and recalled RHP Dominic Leone from Triple-A Buffalo. Upton hit a two-run homer in Toronto’s final preseason game on Saturday against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
