KANSAS CITY - Just when they need them most, the Blue Jays’ big guns have gone deathly silent.
After outscoring the rest of Major League Baseball by a country mile for the first three months of the season, Toronto’s run-scoring machine has been held scoreless for 24 consecutive innings, including Friday night’s 3-0 Kansas City Royals win in the opener of a three-game series at Kauffman Stadium.
For the second game in a row, the Jays squandered a fine pitching performance, this one by Marco Estrada, who survived an injury scare in the first inning, then pitched into the seventh inning.
