Jays' Beliveau looking to break camp with big-league job

DUNEDIN — A few weeks ago, Blue Jays lefty pitcher Jeff Beliveau was dining at the famous Schwartz’s delicatessen in Montreal when one of the restaurant’s employees noticed his name as he paid the bill.

A few feet from where Beliveau and his friends sat was a signed picture of Montreal Canadiens legend Jean Beliveau.

“The guy serving us pointed at the wall and I was like, ‘Yeah, I think I’m related,” said Jeff, who signed a minor-league contract with the Blue Jays on Dec.15, which included an invitation to spring training.

Beliveau the ball player hails from Johnston, Rhode Island and said he is asked “all the time” if he is related to the Hockey Hall of Famer.
