Considering it has been responsible for the Maple Leafs' Intercounty Baseball League ouster the past two seasons, Barrie could be considered a commuter-town curse word around Christie Pits.
Not so, assured longtime Leafs manager Damon Topolie.
"They deserve the championships they're winning right now," the Leafs skipper said of the Baycats, Toronto's foremost IBL adversary. "They had to lose before they won."
Indeed, the Baycats might be three-time consecutive playoff champs — including last season at the Maple Leafs' expense — but they lost four of five championship series to the Red Sox before that, finally snapping Brantford's unrealistic run of six consecutive IBL crowns in 2014.
