Hutchison optioned to Buffalo

DUNEDIN — A year ago, Drew Hutchison was Toronto’s opening day starter. This year, the best he can hope is for the same honour, but in Buffalo, not Toronto.

Hutchison was optioned to triple-A on Monday but manager John Gibbons, in announcing the demotion, said he expects the righthander to play a key role in the Blue Jays 2016 season.

“I don’t think he has anything special he needs to work on, just be consistent and pitch well,” said Gibbons. “He pitched well this spring and I believe he’s going to play a big part this year.
