GM Alex Anthopoulos leaving Blue Jays

TORONTO - Alex Anthopoulos is out as general manager of the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Sun has confirmed numerous early morning reports that Anthopoulos will not return to the team, after rejecting an offer to remain in his position. His contract was set to expire on Saturday.

The shocking development comes after the greatest Blue Jays season in memory - and one of the great seasons any general manager has ever had in any sport.

The departure of Anthopoulos coincides with the arrival Monday of Mark Shapiro, the president of the club hired away from the Cleveland Indians to replace Paul Beeston, Apparently, Anthopoulos wasn’t willing to accept a GM’s position with the Jays with less than full GM responsibilities, sources say.
