The Red Sox got a jump on the trade deadline the past few days, with a couple of deals that will likely help them everywhere but where they need it most — the rotation. They began by acquiring veteran infielder Aaron Hill from the Brewers on Thursday. Hill is a RH bat having his best season since 2011 with the Diamondbacks, batting .287 with eight homers (all to right field … hello, Green Monster!) and four steals. He got to Beantown on Friday and was immediately given the start at third base against Rays right-hander Chris Archer, going 2-for-4, although that was only because incumbent Travis Shaw was nursing a bruised foot.
