Ex-Blue Jay Buehrle admits he drank beer before pitching in World Series game

Mark Buehrle didn’t make a habit of getting liquored up before taking the mound during his big-league career.

But the ex-Blue Jays starting pitcher does admit to downing a few beers before pitching in a game. In the World Series, no less.

Buehrle admitted that he’d had a few cold ones — “It was only like three beers” — before pitching against the Houston Astros in Game 3 of the 2005 World Series. The story had reached legendary status in Chicago but Buehrle never confirmed it until writing on the Players’ Tribune website Friday, the day before his number was to be retired by the White Sox.
