Encarnacion suspended 1 game; will appeal

Toronto's Edwin Encarnacion has been suspended one game and received an undisclosed fine for making contact with umpire Vic Carapazza in the first inning of the Blue Jays' 2-1 loss to Cleveland on Friday.

Encarnacion will appeal the suspension and continue playing until the issue is complete.

Encarnacion took a pitch from Indians right-hander Josh Tomlin in the first inning on Friday and felt it was off the plate, but Carapazza clearly disagreed. Encarnacion dropped his bat and threw his hands into the air after Carapazza indicated it was strike three. The two exchanged words, and Encarnacion was quickly ejected for the first time this season.
