TORONTO -- Josh Donaldson is healthy enough to play, but the Blue Jays intend on using him as their designated hitter until his sore right calf is completely symptom free.
Donaldson got the start at DH on Friday night against the Red Sox. He was originally considered questionable for the home opener with a strained calf, but it improved enough for him to take regular at-bats.
Toronto likely could have even decided to start Donaldson at third, but with the club in its first week of the season, it has opted to take a cautious approach with the star slugger.
