TORONTO -- Josh Donaldson reached the 40-homer plateau for the first time in his career on Friday, going deep in the third inning of the Blue Jays' series opener against the Rays at Rogers Centre to tie the game at 2. Donaldson's solo shot cleared the wall in centre field, making him the ninth player in club history to record a 40-home run season. He also became the third Blue Jays player to hit 40 homers and 40 doubles in a season, joining Shawn Green (1999) and Carlos Delgado (2000).
Donaldson has put up MVP-calibre numbers this season, and "M-V-P, M-V-P" chants roar through Rogers Centre every time he steps into the batter's box.
