Breaking down the playoff scenarios for the Blue Jays

While there is not a lot more playoff clarity in the wake of Toronto’s 4-0 dismissal of the New York Yankees Wednesday night, it’s not too early to start to make some assumptions.

For example, it would take an historic combination of events for the Blue Jays not to clinch at least the second wild card berth. The magic number for the Blue Jays to clinch that lowest rung on the playoff ladder sat at three on Thursday. That would mean, essentially that the Jays would have to lose all their remaining games and one of Houston, Minnesota or the Los Angeles Angels would have to win all their remaining games.
