John Gibbons has talked often about the black hole that existed at the bottom of his Blue Jays lineup last year. He speaks a great deal more fondly of those spots in the order this year.
With Danny Valencia at No. 7, Kevin Pillar at No. 8 an Ryan Goins at No. 9, the bottom of the order has been quite productive all year. But in June, they are setting new standards for themselves. This month, those three players have combined for a .313 batting average, six home runs and 32 RBI. In Wednesday night’s game alone, they combined for two homers (Valencia and Pillar), five RBIs, plus eight putouts and seven assists, five by Goins.
