The Blue Jays were dealt a blow on Tuesday when they announced that second baseman Devon Travis is headed to the 10-day disabled list with a right knee bone bruise and cartilage injury. He will undergo further testing.
In a corresponding move, the club recalled right-handed reliever Dominic Leone. Infielders Darwin Barney and Ryan Goins, who bats lefty, will platoon at second base in Travis' absence.
Travis was hoping to complete his first full season without a DL trip. He missed the first 47 games of 2016 while recovering from offseason left shoulder surgery and spent two long stints on the DL in his 2015 rookie campaign for other shoulder injuries.
