The first 40 years are the most fun for an expansion franchise.
From the ground up to back-to-back World Series in 1992 and ’93.
The Blue Jays opened their 40th season (without snow like in 1977 when Bill Singer faced the Chicago White Sox) on Friday night at the Rogers Centre.
Despite coming off their sixth American League East title, the Jays took a franchise mark of 3,080-3,117 (.497 winning mark) into their home opener against the Boston Red Sox, whose 40th year as a franchise was in 1941.
The Jays were 262-316 (.453) lifetime against the Red Sox entering a night full of presentations, pomp, circumstance and some waving signs before 48,871 in attendance.
