Smoak didn't start in Friday's series opener against the Royals because manager John Gibbons wants to make sure Smoak gets ample rest along the way in what has been a breakout season.
"We'll give Smokey a night," Gibbons said.
Smoak entered Friday hitting .303 with 20 homers, 47 RBIs and a .963 OPS.
