Blue Jays trade reliever John Axford to Los Angeles Dodgers

Less than twenty minutes before Tuesday’s non-waiver trade deadline, the Blue Jays traded Canadian reliever John Axford to the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for minor league pitcher Corey Copping.

Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet was the first to report Axford’s deal to the Dodgers, while Mark Feinsand of MLB.com named Copping being the piece coming back to the Jays.

Copping, 24, is a right-handed reliever who was drafted by the Dodgers in 2015. This year at Double-A Tulsa, he’s pitched to a 2.53 ERA over 46.1 frames, striking out 55 while walking 24.
