The Blue Jays signed right-hander Tyler Clippard to a Minor League deal with an invitation to Spring Training on Wednesday.
Clippard, 33, posted a 4.77 ERA in 67 appearances between the Yankees, White Sox and Astros last season. He was an All-Star in 2011 and 2014 for the Nationals and has a career 3.11 ERA. He struck out 10.7 batters per nine innings in 2017, but his walk rate was 4.6 per nine innings, his highest since 2009.
Toronto had two spots in the bullpen up for grabs this spring before Clippard's signing, with Roberto Osuna, Ryan Tepera, Danny Barnes, Aaron Loup and Seung Hwan Oh having secure relief roles.
