WASHINGTON - Jordan Zimmermann blanked the Blue Jays over eight innings Tuesday as the Washington Nationals beat Toronto 2-0 in the first game of a day-night doubleheader at Nationals Park.
Zimmermann limited the high-powered Toronto offence to just six singles, throwing 105 pitches before handing the ball to closer Drew Storen who set the Jays down in order in the ninth.
Blue Jay starter R.A. Dickey was effective but not quite good enough, surrendering both runs in the fifth inning. He allowed eight singles and one walk before being lifted for a pinch-hitter in the seventh.
It was the first time Toronto has been shut out this season.
