In a surprising murmur of trade speculation, the Blue Jays are apparently “on” New York Mets closer Edwin Diaz, per Mike Puma of The New York Post.
Puma adds that the Blue Jays could “flip [Diaz] for prospects” to the Atlanta Braves, one of the other teams reportedly eyeing Diaz.
Diaz, 25, was once considered one of baseball’s premier closers, thanks to a stellar 2018 season in which he saved a league-leading 57 games for the Seattle Mariners and pitched to an ERA of 1.96 in 73.1 innings, striking out a whopping 124.
