Blue Jays renew Aaron Sanchez contract at minimum salary

DUNEDIN, FLA. -

He had an American League best ERA of 3.00 in 2016 and figures to be an ace among the Toronto Blue Jays starting rotation.

But Aaron Sanchez will work for the major league minimum US$535,000 in 2017 after having his contract renewed earlier this week.

For players not eligible for salary arbitration - Sanchez will be first-time eligible at the end of this season - the club is not required to pay beyond the minimum.

But given the sensational season Sanchez had last year, it could be an ongoing issue, especially given the explosive reaction of the right-hander’s new agent, Scott Boras.
