Blue Jays reliever Jason Grilli got absolutely grilled by the New York Yankees Saturday afternoon at the Rogers Centre.
The right-hander, taking over for starter Joe Biagini in the eighth inning with the Yankees ahead 3-0, gave up four solo home runs in the inning — Brett Gardner, Matt Holliday, Starlin Castro and Didi Gregorius all went deep — until finally, mercifully, being pulled for J.P. Howell. Grilli has now given up nine home runs in 17.2 innings of work and became the first reliever in Jays history to give up four homers in one inning.
When Howell got Chase Headley to ground out to end the eighth, the Rogers Centre faithful let out a round of sarcastic cheers.
