NEW YORK -- Yet another strong pitching performance by a Toronto rookie put the Blue Jays in prime position to complete a late-game comeback, as Randal Grichuk delivered a go-ahead RBI double in the eighth to defeat the Yankees, 3-2, on Sunday afternoon at Yankee Stadium.
In his fourth big league start, Thomas Pannone went seven strong innings, allowing just two runs on four hits for his second consecutive quality start, which helped Toronto secure its first series victory since taking two of three games in Miami at the beginning of the month.
The 24-year-old left-hander got off to a shaky start, allowing a leadoff homer to Andrew McCutchen in the first before New York tacked on another run with a sacrifice fly later that inning.
