The Oakland Athletics designated former Blue Jays designated hitter Kendrys Morales for assignment yesterday. The A’s acquired Morales on March 27th in exchange for minor leaguer Jesus Lopez and international bonus pool slot money.
In 34 games with Oakland, Morales was hitting .204/.310/.259 with one homer and 20 strikeouts in 126 plate appearances. Morales found himself as the odd man out when Mark Canha was activated from the injured reserve.
Manager Bob Melvin had nothing but great things to say about Morales in terms of his professionalism and relationship with teammates.
