The Blue Jays are making a move behind the plate. Dioner Navarro, who has served as Toronto's designated hitter and backup catcher, was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Thursday with a strained left hamstring, and the Blue Jays recalled veteran backstop Josh Thole from Triple-A Buffalo to take his place.
Navarro, 31, is batting .267 in eight games this season, and his injury was backdated to April 22. Thole, meanwhile, was batting .269 with three RBIs for Buffalo in eight games this season. Thole is a career .251 hitter with eight home runs and 102 RBIs in 410 games at the big league level.
