Blue Jays pitcher Aaron Sanchez and manager John Gibbons suspended

Blue Jays right-hander Aaron Sanchez had received a three-game suspension and an undisclosed fine and manager John Gibbons has been suspended one game for Sunday's incidents during a game against the Kansas City Royals.

The announcement was made Tuesday by Major League Baseball.

The game turned testy in the first inning when Royals pitcher Josh Donaldson hit Jays third baseman Josh Donaldson. After that, home-plate umpire Jim Wolf gave warnings to both teams.

Wolf, however, didn't hand out any discipline when Volquez came close Donaldson for a second time.

But Wolf threw out Sanchez when he hit Royals shortstop Alcides Escobar in the eighth inning.
