The veteran southpaw who may not even be wearing a Blue Jays uniform by the time the game takes place has seen his earned run average balloon to 4.44 following two poor showings versus the Detroit Tigers and New York Yankees.
The league attempts to have each team represented at the All-Star game and granted aside from J.A. Happ the Jays do not have very many deserving candidates statistically. Possibly Yangervis Solarte would be the only other name to consider and even his numbers don’t jump off the page when you think All-Star.
However the choice to select Happ over Tampa Bays Rays hurler Blake Snell is mind-boggling and I am not trying to rain on Happ’s parade but come on, look at the comparison.
