DUNEDIN, Fla. — Blue Jays president Mark Shapiro walked into the kitchen inside the Florida Auto Exchange Stadium clubhouse early Sunday morning and came upon Edwin Encarnacion getting himself something to eat.
“I just said good morning and hello, and that was it,” said Shapiro. “I hadn’t seen those comments.”
“Those comments” were the quotes Encarnacion gave to the Sun’s Bob Elliott on Saturday.
Encarnacion expressed his view that the Jays “don’t have it in their plans for me to stay here.” The eight-year Jay's contract, as well as the contract for fellow slugger Jose Bautista, expires at the end of the season.
